A Surreal Breakfast
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under animation, art, film, food, stop motion
Here's the delightfully unsettling animated short Breakfast from the surrealist Czech animator Jan Svankmajer. The piece is one third of a trilogy, also including lunch, and dinner.
I've dug his work ever since I accidentally stumbled upon his creepy version of Alice in Wonderland on TV as a shorty.

R.I.P Rudy.
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under film, news, pictures

Rudy Ray Moore AKA Dolemite passed away on Friday (October 17) due to complications from diabetes.
Moore began his career as a stand-up comedian in the late 1960s, and first gained international notoriety after co-writing and starring in the 1975, signature blaxpoitation film Dolemite.
Through characters like Queen Bee and the fast-talking, street rapping Dolemite, the movie has gone on to achieve cult status and provided a blueprint to assist emcees like Snoop Dogg and Too $hort in the development of their stage personas.
The success of the film spawned a 1976 sequel, The Human Tornado AKA Dolemite II.
Moore recently completed a third film titled The Dolemite Expression, which is slated for release this spring.
While his over the top, raunchy content prevented him from having the mainstream success of contemporaries like Richard Pryor, Moore retained a loyal fanbase throughout his near 40 year career.
Aware that Hip-Hop was an extension of his rapid-fire street punchlines ("…rappin' and trappin' is my game!"), Moore embraced the culture and since the late 80's has collaborated with 2 Live Crew, Big Daddy Kane, Insane Clown Posse, and Snoop Dogg.
A prolific performer in his own right, Moore was known as "the king of party records" for his prodigious amount of comedy LPs released since the late 60's.
To date, Moore has a resume which includes 30 albums and 18 films.

A Burger A Day, Keeps Nothing Away...

The McDonald's hamburger on the right is from 2008; the one on the left is from 1996. And they both look fairly edible.
Wellness educator and nutrition consultant Karen Hanrahan has kept a McDonald's hamburger since 1996 to illustrate its nonexistent ability to decay. Aside from drying out and bit and having "the oddest smell," it apparently hasn't changed much in the past 12 years.
Mmmmmmmmmm, que rico!

Man Sues Doctor For Amputating Penis
What part of "circumcision" was unclear? That's basically what a Kentucky man and his wife are asking of two doctors who cut off the man's penis while he was under the knife. The doctors say they discovered cancer and made an emergency decision. The man says, dude, wtf, you cut off my penis. It doesn't grow back, and it was kind of important to me.
"The lawsuit states that Patterson received consent to perform a circumcision and only a circumcision, and that Seaton did not consent to his penis being removed.
Kevin George, the plaintiff's attorney, said [Dr.] Patterson amputated the organ after finding cancer, but he only had consent to remove the foreskin.
"Sometimes you have an emergency and you have to do this, but he could very easily closed him up and said, 'Here are your options. You have cancer,' and the family would have said, 'We want a second opinion. This is a big deal,'" George said.

Snuff & Choke
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under books, film, news, pictures, videos

Chuck Palahniuk, one of my favorite writers came out with a new book recently, SNUFF. The book is about Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication. On camera. With six hundred men. SNUFF unfolds from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Mr. 600, who await their turn on camera in a very crowded green room.
The promotion for this book is genius. There's a couple of clips online, here's two. Check 'em:
The Twilight Bone
The Wizard of Ass
It doesn't stop there though, this friday the 26th of September the movie to his fourth novel, Choke comes out in theaters. Choke tells the story of Victor Mancini, self-proclaimed sex addict and fake restaurant choker. Turning regular diner patrons into instant "heros," Victor fakes his way through life, exploiting funds from good Samaritans to keep his old mother from death's door.

Gorillaz back at it!...Word!
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under music, news, pictures

Well it looks like we can all disregard what Damon Albarn said last year regarding the future of the Gorillaz. Blur's Damon Albarn and animator Jamie Hewlett have begun work on their third album and follow-up to 2005's 'Demon Days'.
Last year Albarn stated that their would no longer be any Gorillaz albums but has apparently changed his mind. The two recently spoke to CBC and revealed their follow-up plans. "We're doing another Gorillaz record. We came back from summer holidays and realized we could do exactly what we wanted to do with Gorillaz," said Albarn. "Essentially, Jamie just had to agree to draw the characters again. 'Cause I just do what I do anyway."
Hewlett revealed that the animated characters might have a different look or "new angle" in the forthcoming album. "I'm so fucking bored of drawing those characters. But then we had a moment where we had a new angle on it."
"We're not entirely certain [what it will be like]; we generally just go with our gut," added Albarn.

Where your tour guide into this alternate realm is a demure lil thang with a bold set of pipes. "I'm an alien from outer space," declares Janelle Monae on the first song of her debut album, Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition). Yes, Toto, we are no longer in Kansas anymore. This art student made his A-level art project entirely out of chewing gum.
Ally Rosenberg got 50 pals to chew a thousand pieces of gum in the school library, then the 17 year old mixed them together to create the "skin" for his bust of an old woman's head. The masterpiece was inspired by a woman he met in a pet shop. Ally is now working on his next project–making a bust from teabags, dipped in liquid latex.

Greg "Craola" Simkins is a man who has no limits. His graffiti art has graced the streets of southern California for well over a decade. Over the last few years he has made a seamless transition into the world of pop surrealism. He is one of the few graffiti artist who has made such a clean break into fine art by reflecting a whole new style of illustration ability not seen in his street work. Every piece is it's own classic fable and has a story to be told. Greg Simkins is getting it done with one sold out show after another.....

Green Polar Bears??
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under news, pictures

The bulky Arctic beasts - usually clad in a thick coat of snow-white hair - have started turning green. A zoo spokesman ended speculation that the animals had been spray-painted in camouflage colours. The green colouring is apparently the work of algae which have found a new home in the bears' translucent hair shafts. "The harmless algae is the result of Singapore's warm and humid climate," spokesman Vincent Tan told the Associated Press news agency.

B-Boyin' on canvas
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under b-boyin', news, videos
Don't really know if I feel the name its been given, but Bubbles is back...wait, on her back? Yes, Bubbles is apparently painting canvases with her body as she breaks, as well as been teaching the young folk to do the same. She is calling this project "artbreaking". I can't help but think about how she's going about teaching this, will there be people saying "I don't care if I'm not a B-Boy/B-Girl, I'm an "art breaker" from now on? I mean something has to be lost in all of this, no? Are they really learning how to break the proper way, or are they just learning to put paint on their hands and feet and go bananas on a canvas? Either way, sounds like fun and I hope this gets kids into all other types of artforms, such as B-Boyin'...on the floor (our real canvas).
Some Bubbles backround:
Highly respected U.K B-Girl from the "Wolverhampton B-Boys Crew" in the 80's. And get this, she apparently dated drum & bass artist Goldie for a while, he was in the crew.

China
Posted by Gooni Green | Filed under d-projects, flipside kings, pictures, shows, travels
All this Olympic mess that just passed got me to thinking about my trip out to China 2 years ago, and how I was supposed to be there this year performing "Scratch & Burn" with "D-Projects" during the Olympics..but the funds didn't fall through, so scratch that off the list.
So Miami Beach and China were doing buisness together for awhile, and the plan was to have some sort of an invasion of chinese culture onto Miami Beach (restaurants, buisnesses etc..) and vise versa...In planning for this cultural exchange, "D-Projects" came up when they started talking about art/entertainment/performance, so we were asked to submit a press kit of "Scratch & Burn". We did, and we were off! "D-Projects", our anti-war show "Scratch & Burn", and 25 right-winged conservative politicians (I know, the irony huh?)
The trip was insanely pleasing in all sorts of ways, but there were some little things that I would say was effed up. You be the judge.
1) When the folks from China finally decided to watch the dvd (once we already had arrived) they asked us to cut a string of scenes from our show cause they were to political and encouraged free thinking.
2) After asking us to cut those scenes (that would've added up to 30 min) we were asked to make the show longer (2 hrs in length in total)..the show is only 1hr and 15min...oh, and to make it more acrobatical.
3) We were also taken from the theater we were supposed to perform in (a huge 750 seat theater that was gonna be open to the public) and put into a 300 seat theater where the whole audience was handpicked and screened, and
4) The photograghers/camera men that followed us around for 11 days documenting everything, were really undercover cops....crazy huh?!?!
Well, we didn't cut anything from the show & ripped that shit using the thought of all of us being incarcerated afterwards as inspiration, we weren't...and that's a good thing. Oh, and get this...the performer that China sent to Miami was a chinese country singer...WTF!...apperently country music is hella big out there.
